Future Jihad: Terrorist Strategies against the West by Walid Phares. A great look not at just the events of the day, but the 1300 year process which has given the extremist sects their academic and theological base.

That book is so eerily prophetic to today's times it is scary...I think anyone who has the time to read it should definitely check it out...It wasn't recently voted #1 novel of all time by Readers for nothing (Random House)...

I also suggest Judge Andrew Napolitano's "Nation of Sheep" because it will definitely open some people's eyes to the reality of the current state of America...; ▶ Reply to This

Nixon goes around the world and back home again detailing the struggle in each region. Chapter 5 'The Muslim World' as true today as it was 17 years ago. $3 care of a used bookstore in Cape Geiradeau, MO

The FairTax Book by Neal Boortz I prefer a flat tax but it is a well laid out and easily understandable stab at major govermental reform. The right mix of referenced numbers and high level overview.; ▶ Reply to This

I like Newt's POV, as most any republican might.

Best for last?
I finished Atlas Shrugged this past summer, and yes it is scary how much it can be reflected on today. In fact a lot of the book is about "redistributing the wealth" and how negative it can affect us. The only real downer would be the final solution, I won't say as U may be finishing the book.
I read Constitutional Caos A. Napolitano about 2yrs ago, quit an eye opener in itself.

Here is a good start. Liars Poker M. Lewis. An insight into wall street greed, the writer was an employee of Salomon Brothers. These guys would complain about only making 150 million a year on mortgage securities. One state wouldn't allow their mortgages to be packaged into bonds, so they lobbied congress to "over ride" the state law. This book shows tricks and tactics used by bond traders. He also states that the average trader has a 3 year career, and 7 years is consider a long time. Makes you wonder why certain settlements were granted @ 30 years of remaining on the job. Being a very popular book I hope someone else has some input on the text.; ▶ Reply to This

I did get a little more than half way through though. It shows how copyrights started and where they are now. Very few have herd of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), that may be due to the MSM coverage of Monica Lewinsky at the time. This gave the recording industry unprecedented power, exceeding even gov officials. They even got a warrant over a grade school book report because Harry Potter was the subject. Did you know the DMCA allows the recording industry $150,000 per song for illegal copying? The DMCA also gives 100 years of copyright protection from date of publish. So even though "Happy Birthday" was written in the late 1800's, Time Warner will collect royalties until 2030 (about $2 million a year). Not only that, technically when you go to your favorite eatery they are not allowed to sing Happy Birthday w/o paying royalties. The recording industry even extorted money from summer camps for camp fire songs like Cumbya, Michal rowed a boat ashore and many others.
This should be a strong indication of how the MSM diverts our attention while important legal actions are taking place. I got through the part about Microsoft, very interesting stuff. Figured they had more than a 10% share of the world market, not the case. They even address open source software, which should be open to everyone yet some don't see it that way. Published in 01', I wonder what little has changed since it's release.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Yucca Man on December 15, 2008 at 4:43pm: Tried by War: Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief by James McCarthy. Follows Lincoln during the time of the Civil War. I was impressed with how Honest Abe dealt with the naysayers and Dems (usually the same) when it came to making critical decisions. I had to laugh when I heard those in the MSM comparing Obama to Lincoln, actually George W. Bush is more in the mold of Abe. A real decision maker, good , bad or otherwise. Abe even did away with Writ of Habeas Corpus in order to force rebels in the conferacy to give up critical information (sound familiar?).; ▶ Reply to This
