Green Conservatism

The Cap and Trade Tax that passed in the House on June 26, 2009 is a good example of why we need a Green Conservatism, a concept termed by Speaker Newt Gingrich in 2007. Join this group and let's discuss becoming relevant again on this issue.

Welcome Rene, we've tripled our membership in the last week. We do need more people. Thanks for the post.

This group needs more people, of course the groups here are all concerned Americans, but this group is important for the new image that conservatives need to adopt. We need to be seen as Blue-Green, to be seen as people who follow the laws on the books that protect the environment. American oil companies not only don't break the green laws but actually BENEFIT the environment.

An article http://www.anwr.org/features/pdfs/caribou-facts.pdf outlines this, here's an excerpt;

• During the summer, caribou frequently use oil field roads and gravel pads as insect
relief habitat: they stand on the elevated gravel pads because fewer mosquitoes
and flies harass them there.
• North slope oil facilities are specifically designed to allow caribou migration with
elevated pipes to allow caribou to freely walk underneath and limited use of service
roads.
• With 30 years of contact with oil development to go by, the industry has shown that
caribou and oil fields can successfully co-exist. The Central Arctic Herd, which calves
in the vicinity of the Prudhoe Bay, Kuparuk, and Milne Point oil fields, has increased
900% from an estimated 3,000 animals in the early 1970s to 32,000 in 2002.

Read it and weep libs! Is this in the news? No, but "Sarah" knows.

Totally agreed. Welcome aboard.

Regardless of the merits of any particular point in the environmentalists' program, to let concern for maintaining the environment remain a leftwing issue is insane. We desperately need a vigorous, active conservative environmentalist presence on the political scene.
