Shortages everywhere, esp 9mm. Should have picked up some primers @ the show but didn't. Empty casings looked in supply. Seems to be the "gangster" hand gun rounds, though premiums were avb 4 a steep price. Online distributors show out of stock for most 9mm ammo. Picked up the last box of 45 L colt prem around the show, there were still cowboy action loads n that cal.

Rifle ammo looked in supply but they still wanted a premium.

Found this pamphlet on tracers: http://www.scribd.com/doc/6389393/Homemade-Tracer-Ammo#document_metadata

Turns out more a more restrictions on supplies though

I've been thinking about the learning how to reload as well. I started researching it and there are tons of instructional vids at You Tube. Plus there are tons of books and even a magazine or two on the subject.

That said, supplies are hard to find these days. I think primers are the hardest item to acquire at the moment. Have you heard otherwise?

In the end, I suspect we'll all have to learn to reload if this gov't gets its way. :(

So I'm think'n about reloading, any one care to comment. Really want to try tracers, they tend to weigh less due to the powder.

Good site recommendation. I started w/ a Glock 27 myself, same frame as the model in "gun cleaning 102: Glock". Learned a new way to hold the slide when disassembling ;^) The second was a S&W Airlite .38 (wouldn't recommend the .22LR for self defense). These are 2 practical carry choices, but there are a lot to choose from. I believe Taurus offers a .38 revolver that uses a key to lock/unlock the hammer strike for safety. But then again, what if U need it and its locked??
My others don't fit this topic, though I would like a Taurus Judge while they are still around.

Point 3 keeping finger off trigger. Even handling air rifles and the occasional firearm as a child I didn't develop this habit until taking CCW class. This is one of if not the most important aspects of handling a loaded firearm. I pick up on this all the time in TV/movies. An experienced firearms handler will keep their trigger finger outside the trigger guard at all times when carrying a gun. You will notice it parallel to the slide/cylinder above the trigger guard until ready to fire.
Keep safety first. My father told me at a young age "I don't like firearms in the house due to the potential of self harm". I always remembered that and held it w/ the utmost respect. Be thankful for the right to arm yourself and respect other rights to do so as well.

For the women (well, and men too really) in this group...I found a great website.

http://www.corneredcat.com/

Here's the opening page blurb...
Some folks say the most dangerous place in the world is between a Mama Bear and her cubs. It may be so. I've never met a Mama Bear, myself.

The most dangerous place I ever stood was between a cornered cat and an open door.

When a cat feels threatened, she gets away from the danger as quickly as she can. She doesn't care what damage she inflicts on her way to safety, but she's not interested in fighting for fighting's sake. She does only as much as she needs to do in order to escape. She doesn't deal in revenge. If she feels threatened, she simply leaves. Efficiently.

Until she needs to use them, her claws stay sheathed. She doesn't go around threatening to maul people. She's cuddly, she's cozy, she likes to curl up next to a crackling fire on a cold winter's day. She's great company.

But don't try to trap her in a bad situation.

This site is about women and guns, not about cats. But in a way, it's about the cornered cat in all of us. It's about the determination to get away from an attacker if you need to. It's about making the decision to say, "Not me. Not mine. Not today." And it's about the tools to make that decision stick.

If you have to fight ...

Fight like a cornered cat.

Good stuff, huh?

Yeah, I will no doubt do the same. So, on that note, I guess I need to head towards the gun store before the prices go up. I will keep you informed.

You are quite welcome... :)

Don't be surprised if you buy one gun and then find yourself buying another one...then another. I've heard from many people that have them, that you don't just get one tattoo. You get one after another. :)

I have to admit that I'm one of them. I got my first gun and loved shooting so much...I just kept trying out and buying more. I'm up to 5 now and having a blast. (Excuse the horrible pun.)

All the best, Tina

Hi KA, thanks for the welcome and info. I do use a spray similiar to what the police force uses. When I do purchase one I fully intend to take classes. My brother, a retiree from the Army, has been telling me for years to get one. I think it is time, now.
