STEELE BLASTS RUSH

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele is taking issue with the notion that Rush Limbaugh is the de facto leader of the GOP, calling the conservative radio talk show host an entertainer whose comments can be ugly.

"Rush will say what Rush has to say; we'll do what we have to do," RNC Chairman Michael Steele has said.

1 of 2 Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in an interview with CNN that he, rather than Limbaugh, is "the de facto leader of the Republican Party."

And Steele described Limbaugh as a performer.

"Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh's whole thing is entertainment," Steele said. "Yes, it is incendiary. Yes, it is ugly."

Limbaugh fired back on his radio show Monday that the GOP leader appears to be supporting President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"Why do you claim to lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it President Obama succeeds?" Limbaugh said to Steele.

"I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda. I have to conclude that he does because he attacks me for wanting it to fail," said Limbaugh.

Last month, Steele, a former lieutenant governor of Maryland, was elected chairman of the RNC. He is the first African-American to lead the Republican Party. At the time of his election, Steele said that "Rush will say what Rush has to say; we'll do what we have to do."

Steele made his latest comments regarding Limbaugh on CNN's "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News," which aired this weekend. The Steele interview was taped before Limbaugh's appearance before the Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual meeting of conservatives from across the nation. Limbaugh to conservatives: Take back nation
Limbaugh brought a cheering crowd to its feet several times as he called on fellow conservatives to take back the country.

He used his self-described "first national address," which ran more than an hour longer than his allotted 20 minutes, to accuse President Obama of inspiring fear in Americans in order to push a liberal agenda of "big government."

Limbaugh also backed up comments he made earlier this year in which he said he hoped Obama failed.

"What is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and re-form this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?" he said.

But a top Republican in Congress disagreed.

"I don't think anyone wants anything to fail right now," House Republican Whip Eric Cantor said on ABC's "This Week." "We have such challenges. What we need to do is we need to put forth solutions to the problems that real families are facing today."

RNC spokesman Alex Conant on Monday did not directly address Steele's comments about Limbaugh but pointed out the back-and-forth between the White House and the conservative radio host.

"Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats know they lose an argument with the Republican Party on substance, so they are building straw men to attack and distract," he said. "The feud between radio host Rush and Rahm makes great political theater, but it is a sideshow to the important work going on in Washington.

"RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections. The Democrats' problem is that the American people are growing skeptical of the massive government spending being pushed by congressional leaders like [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi," Conant said.

A spokesman for Limbaugh said the radio host did not have an immediate response, but added he would probably address Steele's comments Monday on his nationally syndicated radio program.

In the rush to build the next generation of hybrid or electric cars, a sobering fact confronts both automakers and governments seeking to lower their reliance on foreign oil: almost half of the world’s lithium, the mineral needed to power the vehicles, is found here in Bolivia — a country that may not be willing to surrender it so easily.

1. The first thing is for Michael Steele to tell the radio talk show hosts to shut the hell up about immigration, as they've done great harm to the party.

2. continue to promote free trade with Latin America.

3. support a guest worker program.

Oh, but of course, to start getting Hispanics back to Conservatism, one must understand them like you say.
Then when they see that they are understood, and that you really want the SAME things that they do, then this partisan thing can start to melt away and they will join because they BELIEVE inthe right way, not bc they are HISPANICS. So I do understand what you say.
It is rather PARADOXICAL actually, in order to lose your group identity, you have to first find it. I actually did an art show on this, saying that in order to learn about the world and go beyond your identity, the best way is to truly look deeply INTO your identity, but dont get STUCK there !!! It was really interesting !!!I did paiting about FLAMENCO and about SPIRITUAL practices and about h ow this relates to our present day realities and to Christianity. :)

Tibi I really do see your point. I am a bit worried about the many splinter groups that seem to be forming. While it's normal and good for like to hang with like, we all need to unite for the common cause of Conservatism, not just to get power for our little groups in the RNC. I guess I'm old fashioned, but I was brought up to honor the big idea, actually have real freedom fighter blood, and I think what can make the New Republicans different is that they are the IDEALISTS and make the Dems. look like the partisan splinter factionated groups that they are increasingly. Just check out Nancy Pelosis site, you have NGLB, ethnic, sexual, racial, sexual PARTISAN COMMUNTIES listed on a tab separate from all others, which narrows down if you really want to be fair, to white males. and even that narrows down to white anglo saxon heritage males bc eastern Europeans are still a bit "victims" and thus maybe entitled to special community preferences. I am SO sick of all this. I like white males and our founding fathers were white males, so there were many bad ones, but they are pretty much all dead and we can't single out people to scapegoat, hey !! Also, I resent the hyphenation of everybody else; I am an AMERICAN of Hispanic, Slavic, Northern European descent, not a hypenated anything. I am not a conservative bc i want special priveliges for my being anything but bc i believe it is the cleanest, most moral, most efficient way to do things. This is rather an idealistic approach but I don't see an alternative. I don't bellieve in The One, I think he is an ideologue and about racial matters, confused and comes from parents who were deeply conflicted and very Communistic. He is NOT a model of a bi racial person who has come to real terms with being all of his parts, he is still working out the glitches AT OUR EXPENSE. Just my opinion........

Although I'm not Hispanic myself, I have a great respect for the culture and was involved on the grassroots level trying to organize Hispanics in N.J. for McCain. I am a firm believer in Reagan's old adage, that "Hispanics are Republican. They just don't know it yet."

Ava, I totally agree with you. That is why I welcome many groups with different focus. My concern and the message I send is let's not encourage the formation of groups or coalitions just for the purpose of grouping people, let's create a cause for people to become united under. For instance "Hispanics Business Owners", or "Hispanics Against Abortion" or "Hispanic Seniors for Small Goverment", see my point?
We don't want to homogenize people, on the contrary we want to welcome diversity. The day we begin to comprehend this vibrant and diverse segment of our population, will be the day we are able to create a message that will be heard.
