Blue State

Illinois is a state that has been blue for a while now and its time for it to change. At one point nine of the nineteen House members were Republican. Republicans would be far more competitive if the state party was not grossly incompetent. The Plan laid on rebuildtheparty.com proposes ways that I think will start cultivating a new foundation for the Illinois Republican Party.

A grassroots campaign that focuses on getting more young members and forming a network on the internet are two ideas that I think would be very important. I think it is also important that the Republican Party return to its base principles and not be a second Democratic Party.

Fiscal conservatism, limited government, strict constructionist judges, and strong national defense are principles that need to return. Out of control spending, expansive police powers, and an inadequate defense budget are not where we should be as a country.

Check out William Kelly for comptroller (strange guy but interesting), and Dan Rutherford for Treasurer.

Check out Dan Proft for governor: proft2010.com. Also check out Bob Schillerstrom's website, bobschillerstrom.com. Matt Murphy, Kirk Dillard, Tom Cross, and Brady are also running but none of them really seem interesting. They all seem part of the same old-same old.

Also, does anyone know of there is a candidate challenging Melissa Bean?

Hello everyone! A friend of mine posted this and I thought I'd pass it on to those of you who might be interested and are in the Chicago area.

An upcoming conference titled,

"Market Capitalism: Can Godly Values Make the Difference?"

will be held at Wheaton College on September 23 & 24, 2009. It's sponsored by the J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government, and Public Policy at Wheaton College.

The conference will explore the role of faith and stewardship in markets and governments, particularly in light of the current financial crisis.

Conference registration is available online at: http://www.wheaton.edu/hastertcenter/news_events/conf_main.html

The conference keynote address features Lord Brian Griffiths, Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International. The keynote lecture, titled "The Financial Crisis: Economic, Moral and Spiritual Dimensions," will be held on September 23rd at 5:45 PM and the lecture is free and open to the public.

Please call 630-752-5975 or email grace.dyck@wheaton.edu if you have any questions.

I saw a couple online ads for Republican Congressional candidates and one stuck out. It focused exclusively on Democratic Congressmen that vote with Pelosi 99% of the time or more. Its attacks are focused on Pelosi and the Congressional leadership.

As it turns out there are no "Blue Dog" Democrats in Illinois, they all have really high party loyalty voting records (check CQ Politics section for exact numbers). Only Bean has a vote record less than 90% loyal.

I like the idea of assocating Illinois Democrats with Pelosi as much as possible and pointing to their almost blind party loyalty. No need to talk about Obama, not a good idea and he is not running for office in 2010.

Check out this website. Adam Kinzinger, an Air Force pillot and Iraq War Vet, is challenging Debbie Halverson in the 11th District. He is 29 I think. Check out his biography, particularly the story of him saving a woman from being attacked.

Course, a third candidate may join and we can avoid this mess. Manzullo is possible, but might be too conservative for Ilinois.

And which one do you think has issues. The guy who has won back-to-back elections in a democratic-leaning district, won despite the fact Obama won the district. Or the guy that has been at the helm of this State Party for the past few years...

Hmmm...A bad vote on cap-n-trade is not enough to make up for voting for the mediocre McKenna.

Here's the newest. From Politico. What a dysfunctional state we live in....

Kirk still running -- with one big caveat
Want a sign that the Illinois Republican party is in disarray?

The state party chairman, Andy McKenna, is the one stumbling block preventing the GOP’s leading recruit, Rep. Mark Kirk, from officially announcing he’s running for the Senate.

Kirk, who has been courted by national Republicans for months, told party officials today that he would only be running if they ensured that McKenna won’t be challenging him in a primary.

McKenna was originally planning to run only if Kirk passed on the Senate race, but he had become angered over Kirk’s vote in favor of cap-and-trade energy legislation -- and has told GOP officials he wouldn’t necessarily step aside.

Republican officials have now been pressuring McKenna, who served as Kirk's first campaign finance director, to step aside. He will be making a final decision over the weekend, according to Illinois GOP sources.

Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) spoke with Kirk this afternoon and he told her he was still planning on running, according to Kathleen Lydon, Biggert's chief of staff. Kirk had already scheduled July 20 as the date for his Senate kickoff announcement.

Lydon said she was shocked that McKenna was still seriously considering a campaign.

“He could not keep that party chairmanship if he ran for the Senate,” said Kathleen Lydon, Rep. Judy Biggert’s chief of staff.

Just read a couple blogs online on that, apparently Kirk and McKenna are basing their decision on whoever they have to run against. so its the one foot in, one foot out, kind of game. Hard not to see this as cowardice at least, and at most piss poor coordination.

Maybe they should talk to one another and make a decision rather than telling all sorts of sources they are or are not running.

McKenna can't beat anyone.

And an interesting new twist: Kirk is now *not* running for Senate after all, according to TheHill.com

Can McKenna beat Alexi G?
