You are so very right, Tocqueville, but, we can't put our hope and trust in ensconced politicians like Bruno, Silver and many others. They did their part in causing the problems facing the state right now. We MUST rely on grassroots efforts and intelligent choices in their replacements. We all know that we will receive no help from career politicians like Bruno, so we target them, even though they may be from our own party. The only power, we the people have, is our vote, we must exercise that power to the fullest. The power of the party comes from the people, not the leaders. Lets start wielding that power and demand the changes necessary to put the state back on the right track. As for trying to convince people to vote Republican, that may be the wrong track, lets try to convince them to vote for a concept, one that restores the state to the people, not the politicians.

The problem with trying to convince people to vote Republican based on the ineptitude of the state government is that Republicans controlled the Senate for decades........Sooooooo........
I don't think the party of Joe Bruno has enough credibility to make this argument.

Hi Tim,

I agree with everything that you say. Sure wish you were still in NYS; we could use you.

Just received an e-mail from Carl Svensson and although I now reside in Virginia, I lived in upstate New York, the finger lakes area, for 59 years before moving. I know the importance of mobilizing and I also know it is a thankless task. The key to winning any election in NY, or for that matter, anywhere, is voter turnout. We now have a socialist minded President and an irresponsible, inept Congress solely because of that. When the Dems can boast an 83% voter turnout for all registered Democrats, and the Republicans can only muster 65%, which is high compared to the past, we stand little chance of winning. Now I know that talk is cheap, especially from someone who now lives in Virginia, but, having been involved in the election process in NY for over 30 years, there has to be feet on the ground. When talking to the people, be they Republican, Democrat or Independent, your must speak the truth and you MUST offer facts and proof, otherwise, you will not be believed.
NY government has been digging a hole for more than 30 years and it's done nothing but get deeper. I fear that the hole is so deep now that it is to late to save it. The year I left NY, 2006, NY was ranked 4th in the tax burden per capita list, in those 3 years, they have vaulted to no. 2 with California still far ahead of them. I wish you all good fortune in your grassroots effort, and if there is anything I can do from my distant position, please feel free to ask. If it is within my power, it's yours.

Schumer Tops Madoff's Donor List

Madoff's Congressional Donations
Last Edited: Thursday, 05 Mar 2009, 7:18 AM EST

MYFOXNY.COM - EXCLUSIVE: Fox 5 News has uncovered the whopping amount of money that disgraced financier Bernie Madoff, his sons, brother and wife donated to members of Congress. Madoff is facing accusations of masterminding the largest investment fraud in history and could go to prison for life if tried and convicted.

Watch Charles Leaf's report (video, left).

There is no evidence of any wrongdoing or quid pro quo, but the revelation of the donations raises questions about what influence in Congress may or may not buy. At least one former SEC accountant says that members of Congress have in the past pressured the commission to be a "kinder, gentler cop" with its inspections of Wall Street broker-dealers.

Nobody received more campaign contributions from the Madoff's than New York's senior senator, Charles Schumer. He tops the Madoff donor list at $29,300. His office Told Fox 5 it recently donated $8,000 of that to police and fire endowments.

Here is list of donations Charles Leaf uncovered:

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.: $29,300
Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J: $11,600
Sen. Hillary Clinton: Nearly $9,000 (Senate and presidential campaigns; Clinton is now U.S. sectretary of state)
Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y.: $3,000
Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y.: $3,000
Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J.: $2,000 (during his Senate tenure; Corzine is now N.J. governor)
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y.: $2,000
Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.: $1,800

DID ANY of the people in this NY group go to the Tea Party at City Hall Park recently ?
If not, do tell, WHY NOT ?
The situation is worsening by the hour, and we need to form a united front.
Who is interested in working on a Long Island TEA PARTY ? and who has ideas how to get rid of SCHUMER ?
ALSO/ are any of you in NYC ? WHO is ? I am........lets meet and talk about doing some ACTIONS.

I see that the Assembly passed a reformation of the Rockefeller Drug Laws yesterday, and not a single Republican Assemblyman voted for it. ...Am I missing something here? It seems as though it's business as usual in Albany and new ideas are not sinking into the heads of the good ol' boys. I don't understand what is so incompatible about being a Republican and recognizing that these archaic laws need to change. It's very disappointing that Democrats are the ones that are actually willing to make these reforms. Even Michael Savage has admitted that marijuana needs to be decriminalized. We're becoming a police state with all of these dopers we're throwing in jail. That is shameful if they're voting against it just to support the 'prison economy' spread across Upstate. What a racket.
