I have the feeling that the Republican party is going to continue to spiral down in the future unless so many GOP'ers stop believing that the answer is to move further to the left or center. That,in my opinion,is why so many Republicans lost this year, not because they were too conservative, far from it. Republicans lost this year because they stopped following their core principles and nobody had faith in them that they could lead the country with such wishy-washyness.

And what further infuriates me is one of the criticisms Non-Paulers have of those of us that support the good doctor is that we aren't willing to compromise our principles, hello,of course we're not,it's called integrity, honor. Let's face it,the Republican party has lost it's honor, instead of standing strong and sticking to their principles they keep moving where the line is because initially it's easier to give up your principles and go along to just get along than it is to hold your ground.

I guess that I am working backwards, and the candidate that Victoria is alluding to is Ron Paul. Am I right?

The last comment seems to have been posted some time ago - January 2008 - and frankly, I can not believe
that a "debate" of this sort is still going on. Ron Paul is in his early seventies, and certainly can not be seriously considered as a "serious" candidate for 2012; he certainly is not a viable one. Furthermore, I do not believe that he would even entertain the idea of running again.

If we are to advance our agenda of limited government, free markets, and personal freedom, we have to look to
the future, and not dwell on the past.

I share you sentiments and I absolutely believe that the future of the GOP is quite grim.

I agree..and the longer I'm on this forum, the less I believe that the GOP will be able to rally in 2010. We can't pry these neo cons off with a crowbar...that's killing the party. They need independents...and they aren't going for it anymore. The Ron Paulers won't go for it...the libertarian's wont accept it...and they want to keep on putting people like Jindel, Crist and Mccain. Most people in the USA are flat sick of the nonsense going on in the Middle East. Many of the non paulers can not be convinced that we are dealing with one party with two faces.

Many non-paulers cannot be convinced that there is anything wrong with the party at all let alone that we are dealing with one party with two faces!

Of course, but they'll just see it as a Democrat problem believing that as soon as we replace the Dem.s all will be well when that could not be further from the truth!

And what is your problem with Bobby Jindel? I can understand McCain & Crist as well as few others but Jindal is extremely conservative, has a great record & has done more the first 6 mo he was Gov than most do in years.

I agree, but I also think that the Republican party will destroy itself with the division & Obsession of some people about one candidate.

As a newcomer, am I correct in "guessing" that the 'one candidate' is Ron Paul?

Just before the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin said these words: "We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." I have begun to believe that this is where the conservatives stand today. Yes, we all know the party is at the neo-con/conservative crossroads. However, I fear that we conservatives will not unite to win this fight. In our frustration with a moderate party leadership, many conservative championed certain "faces" of conservatism. This is the right thing to do in an election. However, now, I believe the anger these champions still exhibit is preventing the unity we need to recapture the party.

On this site and others, over and over, you hear the bitter divisiveness, us-vs-them, the adversarial speech. Accusations and anger fly. The champions of this candidate accuse the party of discrimination; the followers of that candidate threaten to leave. If we can't get over this, infighting between the conservative camps will leave the party to the moderates. I beg all true conservatives to stop the finger pointing, the anger, the vitriol. I beg all my conservative brothers and sisters to unite on the foundation of our ideals.

We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall lose our party.

I do have to agree with Laura here, but I am curious as to what her definition of "moderate" is, and please do not
define it as a RHINO which never seems to be defined either.

I'am thinking that all rebuilding needs to start at a local level. So get involved with your local central committee, hold your local politicians accountable to your state party platform.
