I think we have to address the issue of 3rd parties because a lot of ticked off Republicans voted third party. I did. An an anti-war conservative, there was no way I could vote for McCain/Palin. McCain's vote on the Bankster Welfare Bill bill was a disgrace.

That said, Suzanne is right about her comments on the LP and CP. Those two parties are never going to merge because the CP is essentially a Biblical party whereas the LP is divided into 2 factions, the law and order constitutionalist faction and the lawless renegades who don't believe in laws or borders or even nations.

The GOP needs to win back the voters it lost. Obama won by 8.5 million votes and the GOP lost 9 states. Some states that remained red barely remained red.

I call tell you what the issues are because I've been hammered on threads on this site by folks who love the GOP wars and big government. The core divides are war, the economy, the federal reserve and the growth of federal power.

The GOP can't rebuild or ever win without the Paulites, the Buchananites, the paleo's, the Libertarians, independents and Reagan Dems.

Unifying the various GOP constituencies is going to be very difficult. For that to happen, the GOP would have to start with shedding shedding its neocon leadership.

The libertarian party folk would NEVER be able to wrap their heads around the preamble of the Constitution Party...I'd go with the Constitution Party personally.

Hi, I’m Katie, I’m new to Rebuild the Party, but I am so excited about Sarah Palin, and really just ready to help further the conservative agenda! I have been really active in Team Sarah, and just found this site! I’m looking for ways to get involved. Every day I mark it down on my Sarah Palin Calendar, so that at the end of the year I know I did everything I could possibly do. I just think having a calendar with a cause reminds you ever day to do something proactive!

I agree with Rosk's comments entirely. As for CP and LP combining I am all for that. It is sort of happening now. The truly conservative wing of the GOP, the CP, LP and even some smaller groups such as the America first party are all starting to band together. What they need to do is combine their primary so that we have one liberty party candidate in the end that we can all vote for. I was so disgusted with Bob Barr I really believe there is some sort of spoiler presence by the GOP in the LP leadership. Barr's campaign was the most pointless I ever seen. I have also always been terribly bothered with the LP when it comes to that foremost constitutional right-to life.

When will we admit that Pres. Bush has been a disaster for the GOP? Frankly, most of us, including me, were caught up in the post-9/11 atmosphere that really brought down our guard. We must return to the principles of limited, efficient government, devolution of power to the states, and rational, realistic foreign policy. It's a shame that we have to go through this rebuilding process after the heights of success the GOP has had over the last few years, but we squandered it. At least there is a new call to return power to the states, led by the new batch of successful governors.

U - I couldn't agree more and I've always believed that uniting the LP and CP holds the greatest potential as a GOP replacement.
Uburalus Comment by Uburalus on December 7, 2008 at 12:51pm
Well frankly Boudicca if the Republican party continues as it is,it would be better if it did implode, then it could be replaced by either the Libertarian or Constitution party, personally I'd prefer a mixture of both.

I believe that Ron Paul deserved an opportunity to speak at the RNC Convention even if he didn't endorse John McCain. But party rules do require that the nominee be endorsed. I understand. But that was then and this is now. After the 11/4 GOP bloodbath that resulted in the loss of 9 red states (OH,NC,FL,VA,IN,IA,NV,NM,CO) and Obama winning by over 8.5 million votes, the question remains: Where does the GOP go from here?

As I see it, the GOP has nowhere to run or hide. The Bush wars, the platform position on foreign policy and the financial/economic meltdown have magnified GOP failures on all fronts. Even worse, the GOP stands for absolutely nothing except corporatism and endless interventionist wars of empire.

Granted, we aren't sufficiently numerous to take control of the GOP but the GOP can't win without us either. In a perverse way, the crushing defeat on 11/4 was a victory for constitutionalists and anti-war folks. The sheer magnitude of the defeat (Obama 365 electoral votes) plus senate and house seats lost absolutely have the GOP in a straightjacket.

The GOP is old, gray and dying and it's reliable voting contingent of seniors who overwhelmingly voted for John McCain in the primaries are rapidly fading.

What's left, besides a GOP funeral?

The young went for Obama 2:1, the female vote went largely Democratic. Heck, the GOP even lost the Catholic vote that Dubya got in 04. The Reagan Dems were lost. Gosh, how much worse can it get?

So,in other words Oren,if he'd dropped his principles and endorsed somebody that went against everything he believes in,he would've been allowed to speak, just be a good little boy and do as your told, yeah right,NOT. Personally I'm glad he stuck to his principles,I would've lost a little respect for him if he hadn't. The Restore the Republic rally was better anyway.
