What is Social News?Social News refers to websites where users submit and vote on stories. The most popular content is then displayed to users. At first, we will only be focusing on
Digg.com which is the largest Social News website. By recent estimates, 13 million Americans visit Digg every month. Once things start moving, I will introduce everybody to the rest of the social news sites.
How Digg WorksA vote for a story is called a "digg" and a vote against a story is called a "bury." Between 15 and 20 thousand stories are submitted daily, but only the most "dugg" stories will make it to the site’s front page. It typically takes between 75 and 150 diggs for an article to get promoted to the Digg front page.
Stories that have made the front page can be accessed via the Popular tab, while stories that have not yet made the front page are accessible via the Upcoming tab (see screenshot below). Digg divides its content into a variety of categories, allowing users to filter content so they only see articles on topics that they want to read.

A story that makes it to the front page will receive tens of thousands of visitors.
Registered users can make profiles, add friends and send messages (called "shouts") to alert friends about stories on the site.
How can Digg help us Rebuild the Party?Using this group as an organizational tool, we can coordinate our efforts to send traffic to stories that paint the Republican Party in a positive light. By voting and commenting on stories, we can reach out and share the logic behind our political ideology with new demographics.
How Can You Help?1.
Create a Digg account. Only registered users can "digg", comment or "bury" stories.
2. Start digging and commenting on stories. We will alert you when we find great articles to digg but we encourage you to explore and interact with the site on your own.
3. Please "digg" the articles related to politics and the Republican Party that you are already reading (most news websites already have "digg" or "share" buttons built into each article). If you press the "digg" button and the article has not yet been submitted to the site, please submit it.
4. If you find or submit a great article, post it to the discussion forum in this group. We can't "digg" and share good articles we don't know about, so tell us! Also, to add like-minded friends on "Digg," friend the people who are digging the same stories as you. That way if you decide to "shout" a story to your friends, they are more likely to "digg" it.
5. Recruit others to help in our efforts. The more active Republicans we have digging stories, the better. More "diggs" means more traffic because articles spend a longer time on the front page.
6. Feel free to "digg" and comment on other non-political articles you find interesting as Digg likes to reward users with a varied site history. Besides, there is a lot of interesting stuff that you wouldn't find on a mainstream news outlet. Enjoy it.
