Hey all, I'm brand new to Austin and am looking to connect with others who are working or have worked in the realm of advocacy on pro-family issues, parental rights, and civil justice reform. I'm looking to make some inroads on networking as an advocate and political strategist, in order to learn more as I become more acclimated to this great state.

On a cold and rainy September day in Connecticut, the Tea Party Express Bus rolls into Hartford. They are greeted by about Two-Thousand American Citizens. I was told by many Connecticut Tea Party groups, that most of their members were already headed down to D.C. for the National Tea Party Rally. All the same the people, including myself braved the Ice Cold Rain. The Astro-Turfer’s came alive on this day. The theme was dedicated mainly to September 11, attack on America by Islamic Extremists. Most of the Connecticut Media didn’t cover the event; as usual real journalism was left to Ameriborn Constitution News Company and William Landers reporting.

To All Members of District 21:

Congressman Lamar Smith is holding a healthcare town hall on Monday, 8/24 in Kerrville and in San Antonio. Please be advised that we have confirmed information which indicates that Organizing for America (Obama's group) & MoveOn.org are going to try to mobilize their folks to come to these meetings. As all of you know, they will attempt to be disruptive and get us hot under the collar to get US to react to them. DON'T DO IT! No matter what happens, it is incumbent on us to maintain our cool and be mannerly.

Here is the advice I have been offered by a variety of people as to what WE need to do:

1) Make signs and bring them -- Nothing incendiary or inflammatory. (no swatikas, hitler stuff etc)
2) Work up intelligent questions based in fact not what you've heard on the news (there are some links below for you to reference)
3) Write letters to drop in the basket at the front door. They will be delivered by Smith's people -- you can direct your letters to the president, Pelosi, Reid or Cong. Smith
4) Wear patriotic clothing -- be sure you dress nicely as we have that MOB reputation for be "well dressed" (ha ha)
5) Bring VIDEO CAMERAS AND DIGITAL CAMERAS
6) Get there EARLY!!! Kerrville start time is 9:30am -- be there at 8am SA start time is 12:30PM -- be there 10:45 or 11:00
7) When you get in, try to seat yourself as close to the action as possible so we can get to the mike for questions.

I have pulled from the Obama/moveon sites their tips for their folks...read thru them so you will know what to anticipate. Please review the GOP proposals for healthcare reform by visiting the links below and let's try to steer this conversation

Tips for Move On.org members at Town Hall Meetings (from their website

I'm here to urge you to push for passage of a health care reform plan with a real public health insurance option as soon as you head back to Washington. It's critical for controlling skyrocketing costs and guaranteeing security for all of us.

Our health care system is broken—costs are skyrocketing and too many people can't afford coverage. The heart of President Obama's health care plan—the public health insurance option—is the key to fixing those problems.

We need action now. The cost of inaction is too high—every day that we delay, 14,000 Americans lose their insurance1 and nearly 2,500 file for bankruptcy because of medical costs2. And costs continue to spiral out of control: average family premiums will hit $22,000 a year in the next decade.3

With a real public option, costs will start to go down and millions of individuals, families, and small businesses will have access to high-quality, affordable health insurance. And no matter what happens to our jobs or our health, a public option will always be there for us. Will you fight to make sure a real public health insurance option is included in health care reform this year?
