Subject: January 17, 2009, Conference of Virginia Conservatives

To interested conservatives: Our first milestone is the 2009 Republican State Convention on May 29-30, 2009, in Richmond. Conservatives must demonstrate that they are the core of the Republican Party and that candidates who seek the Republican nomination reflect the principles that are shared by the Party’s conservative grassroots members.

Please plan to attend a general meeting of conservatives on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Hall on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. Jefferson Hall is located on McCormick Road just south of the University Chapel along the West Range. Details about parking will follow.

Ideally, we should have conservatives from every county and city in Virginia at this meeting. Please reach out to likeminded Virginians in your area to join us at this meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to reach agreement on a statewide plan to recruit, activate and assist conservatives at the grassroots level and to build an effective network of local conservative organizations throughout the Commonwealth. If you have specific suggestions for the meeting agenda, please forward them to me.

I have attached a document that was initially drafted more than a decade ago by Walt Barbee and me for a statewide gathering of Virginia conservatives. It has been modified slightly since then, but nothing of substance has been changed. The point of the document was to demonstrate that our fellowship is not a collection of single issue groups. Rather, there is an overarching set of principles that conservatives share. We may differ over the emphasis to be given to certain principles. Yet, one principle that we all share is that individual liberty is not possible without limited government and the means to hold public officials accountable. I look forward to being with you on January 17.

PWC has a heavy Catholic population, In the past few races they have tended to split their ticket, Marshall-Kaine, Webb-Yes on Marriage, Colgan-Marshall, Obama-Fimian (The more religious Catholics being the exception to these races other than The last Gubernatorial)
Fairfax and to a lesser extent Loudoun also have significant Catholic Populations.
If We win the support of the Catholics and Evangelical leaders, Then We will be better positioned to win back the Hispanic Vote. Churchgoing Hispanics in NOVA tend to be either Catholic or Pentecostal, If We win the Latino Church vote then not only have We gained significant votes, We have also created an opening into these communities, Hispanic Values are a great fit for the Republican Party. I Think that a Strong, Conservative, Populist, Candidate is exactly what We need to win back this vital demographic.
I don't know if you have ever heard of Tito Munoz AKA "Tito the Builder but He introduced Palin at the Leesburg Rally, I'm thinking it could be a very bold and smart move to run him in the 11th CD in 2010.

Interesting, why catholic in NOVA?
Joseph Taylor Comment by Joseph Taylor on November 25, 2008 at 9:59pm
Correct, The message will have to be different but the Basic Principles and Values need to remain the same. Also In NOVA we will have to beef up our catholic outreach just as in the Shenandoah Valley and SWVA We must increase Evangelical outreach.
Jerminator Comment by Jerminator on November 25, 2008 at 9:38pm
I think the key to turning VA Red again will be having a flexible message. The same message that works in Southwest VA will not work in Hampton Roads and NOVA I think will require a separate look altogether.
