Tom Daschle has backed out of the running for HHS Secretary. Apparently, he was the only man the Obama administration believed could succeed where Hilary had failed. Conservatives are on bended knee, giving thanks to whatever Provident force they believe in that the nation has, at least for the moment, dodged a nuclear bullet.

Under the title, "For GOP, a Case of Misshapen Identity," the Washington Post's on-line edition absolutely drips with smug condescension toward all things Republican. The theme, of course, is the introspection Party officials and members are agonizing through as they come to terms with a catastrophic loss in the general election. Introspection is good, but in the instant case one can easily fear it will be futile.
