It is organizations like the NAACP that foster a belief that the government will lift all people and African Americans by offering programs that will be tailored to lifting such a group. You are never 'lifted' when you are almost inextricably tied...

I think there is a point in what you are saying. The Republican party rank and file has spent way to much time trying to define what the party is. We spent the last 3 years looking at our collective Republican bellybuttons and not doing anything. ...

Have been a Minnesota native (now Illinoisan....worse...), Michelle gives me the last hope for Minnesota, I could not think of a better speech. Michelle needs to become a prominent leader of the party. Speaks clearly and passionately on the issue....

Robin, I agree but more my point was that you can't just focus on one person. We need dozens of people and more of a local focus is required for Republicans to be back to where they should be. A hyper-focus of one person or candidate is not going ...

You really only post about Palin stuff, don't you? I hate to sound critical but I guess the hope is that people are here to share a broad swath of ideas since that is what the party is in dire need of. The reason why I might be approaching this p...

How sorely misguided...Makes me unhappy to see that happen. Climate change issues are low on the pole of issues and Republicans could take advantage and knock that bad boy down. Do they, most do, some buy in to it. Sad.

Paul, the position you asserted regarding the 'squeaky wheel' as an ineffective strategy ignores recent history. If you recall one of the keys to the 2006 overtake of of Congress by Democrats was specifically because of the squeakiness of the left...

To be honest, using the previous President's follies as ammunition and defense has been a pretty regular phenomenon. I do recall Republicans pointing out the Clinton had a recession in swing at the end of his tenure. So, Bush being a deflection is...

I think what's telling is the numbers comparison. Obama is, dare I say, average? http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06/23/polls-obamas-approval-rating-holds-steady/#more-57382 "From a numbers perspective, Obama's track record so far is clo...

Dr or not, Ron Paul's ideas are not mainstream, they are radicals and what they do is to weakens our party.

The Stupid Healthcare Debate

Funny that we even need to have this debate. How can the abject failure of like systems in other nations not simply be enough for any American to think that we should forego what has been proposed. The reason that Americans haven't done so is that you don't much hear of these failures. We, as conservatives do but we have our ear to the critical ground provided by our favorite pundits. However, if you are less inclined to be in the daily political debate, you are not going to hear much of these f… Continue

What are 'Richness' of Experiences?

By now we've all heard the 'richness' quote from Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayer, ad nausea. I won't recount that but I think it is worth looking at the implications of that statement. What exactly comprises such experiences and why does it make for the ability to make better decisions. I'm sure you can guess that I might not agree.

First, I have a question; what is it about the Latina woman's experience that makes it rich?

By implication of the statement, it gives her an edge in decisi… Continue

Unfinished Business - Obama Wants Vigorous Abortion Debate

With the heated debate surrounding President Obama's recent convocation speech at Notre Dame, the abortion debate has a new life. I should admit that I am less a cultural conservative and more a fiscal conservative but one thing gets me is when a politician ducks answers and tries to hoodwink the populace. If you recall during the campaign, Obama was dismissive of the late term issue. So, we now have this new debate presented to us. I see this as an opportunity.

With President elevating the deb… Continue

My Name is Dick Durbin but My Friends Just Call Me Ox

On April 23rd, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin posted a floor statement wherein he stated:

"We should not be closing the doors to Cuba. We should throw them wide open. I had some friends who recently went to Cuba, through Mexico, with a visa. They came back and said, "You know, they are still using oxen for power in their agriculture."

Yoking oxen, in the 21st century, 90 miles offshore from the United States? If they knew and could see what modern agriculture could bring to them, if they could u… Continue
