FAQ for morons?

Okay I'll be real honest. This is the first time I've ever used a social network and I haven't the foggiest clue what I'm doing. I read some of the Ning help pages but they all seem to presume a basic level of knowledge that I don't have. What's more I don't understand how this is supposed to help Republicans regain the majority. So please, someone help out a confused Web 2.0 moron?
