I have only recently become a Republican. That is, I think I've been a Republican for a long time, but only got around to admitting it this past election cycle. Before that, I had always self-identified as either a big or small "l" libertarian. This helped to ensure my social survival in my beloved, but very blue, state. It hit me this past summer that, because I agree with about 85% of Republican planks, 75% of Libertarian planks, and 0% of Democratic planks, I'd best get my act together and participate in a party that can actually make a difference. I hope that the GOP will be that party.
I just joined the Republican Liberty Caucus; I found Rebuild the Party by linking from
RLC's site. I am delighted to be here. My husband and father are alternately despairing and apathetic, but I will never lose faith in the ability of what Isabel Paterson called "the American
idea" to prevail, despite the American peoples' flirtations with truly ridiculous philosophies spouted by charismatic, but very silly, politicians. I'm ready to dig in deep with my heels and help swing this crazy country back on track.
I'm a wife and mom and nanny. I'm also, occasionally, a writer of sorts. I do a lot of laundry and read a lot of books. I like clean bathrooms, G.K. Chesterton, and teaching Sunday School. I love my beautiful Pacific Northwest home, whose sulky, moody days throughout most of the fall, winter and spring give me many excuses to curl up on the couch with a good book and listen to the soft patter of rain against my windows.
