My Husband and I are average Americans and YES WE DO CARE. Obama says there were "NO" earmarks in the Stimulus Package. Inconvient Truth is so common today. What ever happened to the value of honesty ! We NEED to take our country back.

Marla, I also agree we need to start RIGHT NOW. My husband and I are supporting Bob VanderPlaats for our next governor. Mike Huckabee if he runs again for President. We put this into action by having a Huck PAC House Party in our home last night....

Thank you Senator Harkin

An email was sent by me requesting that a "NO Vote" be given for Geithner. This was the email that I received from Senator Harkin

Dear Marla:

Thank you for contacting me about President Obama's decision to nominate
Timothy Geithner to serve as Secretary of the Treasury in his
administration. I appreciate having the benefits of your views on this
matter. As you may know, I voted against confirming Mr. Geithner, who was
ultimately approved by the Senate on a 60-34 vote. While I believe that
the President generally has the right to choose his own cabinet, and I
believe that Mr. Geithner is a man of obvious talent, in the end, I was
unable to overcome my concerns about his record.

First, I am disturbed that he failed to pay his self-employment taxes
from 2001 to 2004, while he was working for the International Monetary
Fund (IMF). In addition, Mr. Geithner most recently served as the head of
the New York Federal Reserve Bank, a key regulator of major banks. In this
position, he made a number of troubling decisions concerns Citigroup.
Specifically, I am troubled that he removed quarterly reporting
requirements from Citigroup and allowed it to expand with a relatively low
capital ratio. Citigroup has now received $52 billion in taxpayer dollars.

Now that Mr. Geithner has been confirmed and sworn in as Treasury
Secretary, I look forward to working with him to help get our economy
going again. I hold no ill will toward Mr. Geithner, and I sincerely hope
that his actions as Treasury Secretary will prove my concerns wrong.

Again, thanks for your input on this matter. Please don't hesitate to
contact me in the future with any questions or comments you may have.

Sincerely,

Tom Harkin
United States Senator

Are you an "Average" American

Senator Chuck Schumer was quoted on Fox news that the " Average American dose not care about pork spending" Well my husband and I are average Americans and we care. Do you care? Send Senator Schumer an email telling him how much you care. I am not asking to be mean and belligerent. Just state your facts in a clear direct message.

I want him to be aware that average Americans do care about the future of our country.

Central Committee member

I am a secretary for the Humboldt County Central Committee. We started a Century Club letter in Feb of this year. We had decent success from it. I would like to hear from other Central Committee members and what they do to raise funds and obtain members that want to be involved not just say they belong. It is the Central Committee's that are the back bone of grassroot politics.Central Committee's are the foot soldier on the ground for any candidate at any level and some counties are ignored by c… Continue

My suggestion is, "get involved at the local level ... soon". Listening to national voices has given all of us a good pholosphical understanding of the issues. Now it's time to start populating the city councils, school boards and legislature with new Republicans. And putting a sign in our yards and voting isn't nearly enough. A speaker at a business lecture (a long time ago) said that if you're not working directly for the customer, you'd better be working for someone who is working directly for the customer. What she was trying to say was that we can't understand what customers want if we're not talking directly to customers.

Getting involved means hosting candidate get-togethers in your home, calling friends on election night to go vote, driving them to polls if they need it. It means writing letters to your city council to tell them what you want, or (better yet) going to the council meetings ... often, not just once in a while. I'm a banker, so I have a lot at risk in politics, but I'm seriously considering taking a run at city council next election.

It also means getting the word out about house and senate democrats. My God, I doubt the average voter understands how far into union pockets the democrats are. Did you know that every house and senate democrat gets a call at least once a month from a union group telling them what the union position is on every bill ... EVERY BILL? The teachers unions and the SEIU are the real 'shot callers' in the Iowa democratic party. I'll be taking a lot of time telling Marion and Linn County republicans about this.

Lcoal involvement means just that ... taking a stand and getting a voice ... doing something besides just voting and listening

Hi, I’m Katie, I am so excited about Sarah Palin, and really just ready to help further the conservative agenda! With what has just happened to Sarah’s Church, we now, more than ever need to focus on positively supporting Sarah and other Republicans! Every day I mark it down on my Sarah Palin Calendar, so that at the end of the year I know I did everything I could possibly do. I just think having a calendar with a cause reminds you ever day to do something proactive!

Marla,

thanks for your comments.

I did a google for "strengthening local gop committees" and several good sites came up. You might try it as well.

The GOP must be able to reach out to all local committees, encouraging volunteers to strengthen the GOP grassroots.

Thank you for your hard work.

Marla,

Do you have a plan or suggestion to help rebuild the Republican party?

I look forward to working with you and all Republicans to return this nation to its conservative Republican background and return those states we lost back to the right color - Red.

Virginia, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Iowa all former Red states. How is the time for grassroots Republicans to stand up for the right and fight for the basics the GOP has stood for.

With the election of Joseph Cao in Lousianna and taking a Democrat seat, things are starting to look up for 2010.

With the Gov of IL in trouble trying to sale a senate seat, Democrates are on the ropes. Now is the time for Republican Grassroots to move as a party to share the Republican message.

Never give up, Never quit, Never fail, Always reaching, the GOP will be back.

Hi Marla! I'll be honest; I normally self-identify as "a maverick independent with Republican tendencies", but this recent election makes the difference between me and a "real" Republican negligible. My main problem with self-identifying as a Republican is this knee-jerk idea that I have to support whatever the party comes up with for a platform -- when in my lifetime I've seen about five different Republican platforms on the national level (not counting local races)! I want to be free to say, "A pox on both your houses!" and either abstain or vote for a third-party candidate that better fits my ideals. (That said, in the interest of full disclosure I should mention that I'm not by any means a political geek. I'm not involved in local party politics and I've got my share of dumb reasons to vote for candidates. ^_^")

Hey Marla! Glad you enjoyed your visit to our fair city. I've not been to Iowa myself. From a politics perspective it must be an interesting place to live.

I see Twitter as like a huge never ending cocktail party. I just drop in whenever I like, join in on the conversation and then leave when I have to move on. I've been on Twitter since March of '07 and have found it to be a useful tool for my business.

Marla, My wife and I used to stop in Humboldt for great pie and coffee when traveling to visit her family. I read your first post to your blog! Thanks for working for the party!

Blog posting will roll off and disappear from your membership front page as you add new items. I know many people find the Ning page layouts to be different. Please check out my page and you can see an example of one way to share info with others about you and your interests on a permanent basis by using the text block option.

Once you settle on added changes, you can open all your Ning memberships in different pages or tabs in your browser (assuming you are using same id and password for each) and you can copy and paste the updated layout info into each of the groups and modify them to fit the particular Ning group.

Thanks for being involved!!
God Bless,

Marla, Thanks for the message. I'm excited about the possibilities of what this site offers and see this as a potential beginning to helping the party get current in both old school ways but just as important.... the 21st century ways and means to accomplish much greater results than the last 2 election cycles... both here in Iowa and nationally.
