Heretics, Skeptics and Politics

Ever heard of J. Harlen Bretz and Joseph T. Pardee? They were the scientific heretics of the early 1900’s who posited the theory of a glacial Lake Missoula and a mammoth flood shaping the channeled scablands of Eastern Washington, washing an area stretching from Montana to the Willamette Valley. It was considered a preposterous hypothesis. The consensus of the scientific community was that such a large and earth shaping event was inconceivable, as it violated the accepted principle of Uniformita… Continue

Priorities

Good news for me today, I got my first by line with a guest editorial published in the Seattle P-I. If you'd like to read my suggestion for saving the state $2,795,000 and getting a better grip on what priorities of government should mean, then I invite you to read along at: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/398437_womenbiz03.html

I'm blogging now, but I've been writing letters to the editor for over 40 years. My very first letter to the editor (I was in the 5th grade) was also a suggestion… Continue

Dear North Dakota

Dear North Dakota Legislators,

We're in Minot, North Dakota for a few days visiting our daughter, son-in-law and grandson at their new home at Minot AFB. We drove here from Washington (state) via I-90, I-94 and US Hwy 2 to deliver a car stuffed to the roof with odds and ends of luggage, a computer, a dog, and a cat. We spent yesterday entertaining the grandson and the dog while United Van Lines delivered a truck load of furniture. Thanks for turning up the temperature for our visit, we understa… Continue

To Preserve, Protect and Defend

I am a native Washingtonian and have always lived in the northeast corner of the most northwest of the 48 contiguous states. As a child who only watched football during bowl games, I had a very simple way of deciding who I would root for. I sided with the university located farthest west. If both were from the west, the tie-breaker was which school was farther north. If it was WSU Cougars vs. UW Huskies, then go Cougs! It was a simple, childish tribal impulse of hometown allegiance applied to so… Continue

You Can't Always Get What You Want

It’s the time of year when visions of sugarplums and Christmas songs get stuck in your head. Here’s what’s been playing in my head for the last three days (with apologies to the Rolling Stones):

You can’t always get what you want,
You can’t always get what you want,
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You just might find
You get what you need.

We’ve spent most of the last three days recovering from one storm, working outside during the last storm, and getting ready for… Continue

Hi Sue,

Thanks for joining... Your blogs are pretty interesting, especially anything involving goats...I LOVE GOAT meat... Since moving to Florida it is one of my greatest challenges, not having curry goat for dinner on Sunday's. >)

You have an impressive background and interesting writing style, I would like to publish some of your work relative to the nature of the magazine.

I look forward the continued networking.

You noticed they were spelling Sarah's name incorrectly also, good for you. We must make allowances for recent high school graduates. (grin)

The 537 plan is simple. There are 435 Congressional seats, 100 Senatorial seats and the VP and Presidential seats. Add that up and it equals 537. Now I used the National level numbers but it coincides with state level too even though the numbers maybe different. In 2006 and in 2008 the GOP did not run candidates in as many as 40 or more districts and we cannot win if we do not support candidates in each district. Many people say there are districts so democrat that no republican can win, they said that about many Republican seats but we see that the statement is NOT true. We can win if we run good candidates in ALL districts.
Also, in 2010 we are holding our census, we need to take many state legislatures or we lose out in the redistricting process.

I personally invite you to group "The 537 Plan" to give us some of your thoughts on how the GOP can retake both the House and Senate in 2010. Who knows, you maybe the next person that gives us what is needed to get over the edge.

That could very well be, as I've tried to sell my gourds at a few markets. Maybe we'll run into each other again while trying to Rebuild the Party, I hope we do. If I remember correctly, two of my Grandkids went to a private school in Edwall a few years ago. Take care

Sue,

You are correct we must come together as a party. We will not agree on everything but we must agree to work against the liberal political machine. There are some issues the libertarians and and GOP will never agree on nor will there be compromise, but those issues we agree on, we must use to return America back to its greatness.

Keep up the good work, never stop, never quit, always reaching.

Stephen.

With what has just happened to Sarah’s Church, we now, more than ever need to focus on positively supporting Sarah and other Republicans! Every day I mark it down on my Sarah Palin Calendar, so that at the end of the year I know I did everything I could possibly do. I just think having a calendar with a cause reminds you ever day to do something proactive!

Sue,

Welcome to RtP.

Do you have a plan or suggestion to help rebuild the Republican party?

I look forward to working with you and all Republicans to return this nation to its conservative Republican background and return those states we lost back to the right color - Red.

Virginia, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Iowa all former Red states. How is the time for grassroots Republicans to stand up for the right and fight for the basics the GOP has stood for.

With the election of Joseph Cao in Lousianna and taking a Democrat seat, things are starting to look up for 2010.

Never give up, Never quit, Never fail, Always reaching, the GOP will be back.

Stephen
South Alabama Republican
