This weekend we honor the dead

For those of you who aren't familiar with this event, for the past 20 years a group of volunteers has been getting together and lighting a candle for each of the soldiers who died at the Antietam battlefield. Antietam is the bloodiest single day battle in US history, with 23,100 dead. The candles burn in bags all night and visitors can drive through the battle field and view the candles. There is something about driving through 5 miles of continuous candles and realizing that each one of those c… Continue

A simple(?) plan to fix the Republican party

Ok, so I have spent the past 3 blogs focusing on what my perception of the problems are, and I may revisit some of that in the future, but as I tell my kids, don't just complain that things aren't going your way, have a plan to change things (which is a very useful suggestion when dealing with 6 year olds or some politicians). So I will break things down in a logical manner.

Leadership:
We need to take a hard look at all of the party leaders, starting at the national level and moving dow… Continue

Deconstruction Part 3: Who speaks for you???

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. In the third and what may be final part of my Deconstruction Blog series, looking at the perceptions of the Republican party by me and the people I know, let's talk about who speaks for the Republican party. We have a saying in consulting, Perception IS Reality, so the people who are perceived to be your spokesmen are very important. I am not talking about the official spokesmen but those unofficial people who show up on talk radio, television stations… Continue

Deconstruction Part 2: What is a Republican

As I have been involved in discussions with several people on this site, as well as some who are not on this site, but whose opinion on these things I value, I think the next thing I want to understand is "What is a Republican?" I ask that because a lot of the discussion today centered around conservatism, social conservatism versus fiscal conservatism, social moderates and other phrases that everyone seems to have their own definition of. So what is a Republican? What do Republicans stand for?… Continue

Deconstruction Part 1: The party of God

Welcome to the new hit show CSI: GOP
For right now I am not going to focus on what went wrong with the election. First, I am not qualified to comment on how to run a campaign and second, there are many people out there who are doing that. I want to focus on what the GOP needs to do to return the party to power. The plus side is that I get to live out my fantasy of being Gil Grissom.

In order to understand why the GOP lost touch with the American electorate, it will be useful to look at the perc… Continue

Hi William,
Good to see another Washington County Republican on here. My husband and I are in Hagerstown. My husband, Charlie, wanted to know if you were responisble for Red Maryland. He loves that website.

Hello Fellow Republican,

In 2005, Christine Todd Whitman, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under George W. Bush, published her book entitled: “It’s My Party Too: The Battle for the Heart of the GOP and the Future of America.

Among other things, Whitman states, “Moderates have an indispensable role to play — we must bring the Republican Party, and American politics generally, back toward the center. But that won’t happen easily. It is time for Republican moderates to assert forcefully and plainly that this is our Party too, that we not only have a place, but a voice — and not just a voice, but a vision — a vision that is true to the historic principles of our party and our nation.”

In January 2009, the Republican Party will become a party out of power.  Plaintalk from the Texas Hill Country - It's My Party Too! will be focused on the emerging battle for the “heart of the GOP and the future of America“.  It will do so by chronicling breaking news feeds and political commentary from local, state and national news sources.

Plaintalk can be reached by email: mcgrody@gmail.com or by phone: 830-446-6150

Hi, I’m Katie, I’m new to Rebuild the Party, but I am so excited about Sarah Palin, and really just ready to help further the conservative agenda! I have been really active in Team Sarah, and just found this site! I’m looking for ways to get involved. Every day I mark it down on my Sarah Palin Calendar, so that at the end of the year I know I did everything I could possibly do. I just think having a calendar with a cause reminds you ever day to do something proactive!
