We Want The Same Thing
By Darrel Mulloy
There’s a controversy brewing in Texas. It is a controversy over secession or what some are calling nullification. Some see only secession as the end to government intrusion in our lives while others more hopefully believe that the union should remain intact and that the tenth amendment can be used to force the federal gov…

On the other hand, Schiff has a long way to go. According to a Quinnipiac poll released July 23, 2009, Simmons is far-and-away the front runner in the early stages of the Republican race, while Schiff has virtually no voter support at all. In other words, if Schiff does pull the trigger and commit to running, he'll be starting from ground zero in terms of popular support. Take a look at Quinnipiac's percentages of support from its three most recent polls:
7/23 5/27 4/2
Simmons 42% 52% 32%

After half a century of fighting encroachments upon freedom in America, journalist Garet Garrett published "The People's Pottage." A year later, in 1954, he died. "The People's Pottage" opens thus:
"There are those who still think they are holding the pass against a revolution that may be coming up the road. But they are gazing in the wrong d…

Dear Friend of Liberty,
Earlier today, the first shot in our battle to pass Audit the Fed through the U.S. Senate was fired on the Senate floor by Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina.
Senator DeMint, who has a well-deserved reputation for taking the battle to the other side in the Senate, once again proved why he is such a valuable ally in our fight to bring transparency and accountability to the Federal Reserve.
A little while ago, the Senate voted to pass HR 2918, the Legisl…

Should the Church Wave the Flag?
by Jeffrey A. Tucker
Recently by Jeffrey A. Tucker: Free Bernie Madoff
The Catholic Church in America in the 19th century would have never featured an American flag anywhere in sight. This trend began in World War I: the German parishes were pressured to show their loyalty to the state and its war.
The trend picked up steam in World War II, when the Italians too were suspected and so had to declare their loyalty. The flag issue became universal during the C…

Blasphemy in Song
by Laurence M. Vance
by Laurence M. Vance
This past weekend, since it was the closest weekend to the Fourth of July holiday that we observe today, churches all across America resounded with patriotic songs. Although the wisdom of singing patriotic songs in church is itself a debatable proposition, there should be no debate in any church about uttering words of blasphemy, whether spoken or sung. Yet, the patriotic song that is perhaps the one most frequently sung in the churc…

Making a Monkey Out of Darwin
by Patrick J. Buchanan
06/30/2009
"You have no notion of the intrigue that goes on in this blessed world of science," wrote Thomas Huxley. "Science is, I fear, no purer than any other region of human activity; though it should be."
As "Darwin's bulldog," Huxley would himself engage in intrigue, deceit and intellectual property theft to make his master's theory gospel truth in Great Britain.
He is quoted above for two reasons.
First is House passage of a "cap-and…

RON PAUL: Worlds Most Popular Congressman
CommentsMonths after his long-shot bid for the Republican presidential nomination ended, Rep. Ron Paul has become a hot ticket on the international stage. Unlikely as it may seem, Paul, a Texas Republican, is the most popular member of Congress outside the United States, if foreign television appearances are any indication.
Paul expected his international influence to diminish after the quixotic presidential campaign. In fact, it's gone the othe…
