Comment by Michael Brennan on May 5, 2009 at 11:02pm - Reagan was not doctrinally pure, neither was Goldwater, Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevel, Taft or Lincolln. The best conservative leaders were NEVER ideologically pure. Someone who is ideologically pure is not worth voting for. America is NOT 100% conservative so a 100% conservative is pointless and could not win the election. That is why the great Conservative leaders relied upon statesmanship more than ideology in most cases during their tenure.
