The scenario presented here is 2008 all over again. I watched BSG and love it (watch the SciFi channel when I can) but the scenario then presented in the show was 2008. In came Obama promising people the world and they bought it. Now they are realizing the cost of that hope and realizing it was empty.
It really is an interesting point, but I actually am looking at her point in a larger view. Instead of looking at the planet in the tv show as universal healthcare, why not look at it as major spending in particular?
Everyone was all for change when they voted for Obama because it seemed like it would be awesome but now that the spending is hitting them in the pocketbooks, your average American's aren't sure anymore... Classic buyer's remorse.
I also want to point out one number that you missed shelly. CNN reported over the weekend that over the next 10 years, it is estimated that we will borrow $9 trillion if we continue following our current path. Not only will the UHC bill currently on the table only insure 25% of those currently without insurance and hurt the private industry, but it will cost us a lot of money that we don't have.
Luckily, even many democrats are starting to see through it all.
I've never heard of the show Battlestar Galactica, though it seems that my husband loved some goofy game by the same name; he was totally addicted to whatever it was.
Anyhow, you do make a great point. Have you considered running for office? I looked up your senators, and they don't sound too promising, especially that woman senator. Sheesh! Her hair style is like the old beehives! The woman looks like she should be in the movie "Hairspray." (Well, it was set in Baltimore). Maybe that's a stretch - Representative? City Council? Or at least go onto the news circuit to clearly speak the message regarding health care, since some of the Republicans seem to be having a tough time putting it into words?
Some of these guys really need to find girlfriends - perhaps Rebuildtheparty could start an internet dating site, as well ;)
Chris - I think that she has provided you with all that you need to know about healthcare to pass on to the Republican Party!
What you are saing is basically true, You should know that the writers of battlestar Galactica ( I am a fan of this SiFi show since childhood) as well as Gene Roddenberry, the writer of Star Trek ( I am a fan of this show since childhood as well) are openly spoken enthusiasts of the European Socialist healthcare system. Now since I grow up on that and if you would like to have the real numbers of reality determain why this socialist system cant work than please add me as friend and provide your email adress and I will gladly give you my essay as off I have published in here as well as elsewhere.
I cant wait to get to know you and share some interesting thoughts with you

I couldn't pay much attention to the video... I was too mesmerized by the fact that a cute girl watches battlestar galactica...
Anyway, Eisenhower said it best.
“If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking is freedom.” -General (Ret) Dwight D. Eisenhower
