In shift, GOP leaders embrace Hoffman

The House Republican leadership is prepared to welcome Doug Hoffman into its ranks, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) said Thursday, a sign that the GOP establishment is recalibrating its approach toward the contentious New York special election and the Conservative Party nominee whose candidacy has divided the party.

“He would be very welcome, with open arms,” Sessions told POLITICO in an interview off the House floor.

Sessions’s comments came as polls showed Hoffman surging in the Nov. 3 special election against Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava, a moderate who supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and Democratic attorney Bill Owens. Nearly a dozen rank-and-file Republican members announced their endorsements of Hoffman Thursday.

While the NRCC–along with House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.)—have all thrown their backing to Scozzafava, grassroots conservatives have revolted against the GOP nominee, asserting that she is too liberal for them to support. Some have even called for conservatives to withhold donations from the NRCC in protest...

It would be much more fun if our current party leaders would respond to positive re-inforcement rather than negative - Rebuilding the party, however, is a process & won't happen overnight. Good to see it's progressing.

Dede is no "middle of the road" moderate Republican - look at her record. When she was "winning" she was talking about switching parties.

For our party to be strong the principles & values of our candidates have to be stronger than the letter at the end of the name. Party for the sake of party is not going to cut it.

actually catherine she is doing right back to Hoffman that he did to her, its human nature, if you wanna see real crap go New Jersey where the Dems are using thier call center to aid Dagget, remember Dagget was supposed to be the "real conservative" that was gonna show us how it is, he just a lefty helping corizine win as are the rest of them-except Hoffman but he should have been the nominee in first place, he a good Republican, not hard core Conserv like the Left want us to support but he is good

Tomb said a lot there--Im sorry I dont fit into the Newly Born conservatives view of what Im suppose to be too---what is that Alinsky rule? force your opponent to play by his own rules-that is what the left wing is doing to the Conservatives and they are using the extremely adept Paul Hate crowd to enforce this rule

dede, fell in two out out millions of Conservative points-abortion and gay marriage--she is NOT Christian right so the gay stuff is understandable and again abortion is the christian Right---the Great Awesome Hot Dog and Apple Pie Conservative of two centuries Ron Paul supports one of those points and he supports big spending and Pork so he isnt copnserv either then

So we are being told we are now to adhear to Christian Hard Core Right also to be a conserv eh? unless we Ron Paul.

Sorry too many new rules made by those that just bought the book, I gonna stay Conservative and let you 800,000 very loud and rude people live by your own rules

So, if DeDe is middle of the road, then she should be supporting her more conservative GOP candidate, right? But, she isn't she is campaigning for the Dem. This must mean that "middle of the road" only veers left never right, right?

Tumb, you and Dede should be lovers, the only question is "who is going to be Frank tonight?"

Hahahahahaha. Oh Asp you crack me up, like your one to talk about Party Loyalties. Does the fact that Dede was the Party Candidate but you and others opposed and slandered her in everyway, mean anything to you about your party loyalties? Face it, your just like anybody else who only supports those of their own nature. You would gut the party before your done "Ridding it of those nasty, evil, no-good Moderates and liberal Republicans".

Where does this come from "Not sure which way they will go=Middle road" come from? I certainly know where I'm going and I'm in the middle of the road. Gay Marriage Rights and Kick Ass Defense!

What I think the people are looking for is a intelligent, calm, pragmatic leader who won't denounce others completely but will instead look for compromises and effective deals that will make America great again, turning our inter-political anger against those who truly derserve the anger of Americans-the terrorists.Someone who can see past idelogical bickerings and bring back our image as "The GRAND Old Party".

Scozzafava is right on gun control, good catch! :) I'm not sure how "middle of the road" she truly is, given the SEIU, ACORN, & WFP ties...

What you & some others don't seem to realize is that conservative Republican principles draw in others, the "swing voter," if you will. They're not looking for something in the middle of the road, not knowing which way to go. They're looking for a dynamic leader with a clear, positive message of moving the country forward. They also care about their pocketbook, which is why the candidate who wins the tax cut issue wins.

Basicly you can be a conservative without being a Self-Righteous Ass'p.
