In shift, GOP leaders embrace Hoffman

The House Republican leadership is prepared to welcome Doug Hoffman into its ranks, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) said Thursday, a sign that the GOP establishment is recalibrating its approach toward the contentious New York special election and the Conservative Party nominee whose candidacy has divided the party.

“He would be very welcome, with open arms,” Sessions told POLITICO in an interview off the House floor.

Sessions’s comments came as polls showed Hoffman surging in the Nov. 3 special election against Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava, a moderate who supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and Democratic attorney Bill Owens. Nearly a dozen rank-and-file Republican members announced their endorsements of Hoffman Thursday.

While the NRCC–along with House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.)—have all thrown their backing to Scozzafava, grassroots conservatives have revolted against the GOP nominee, asserting that she is too liberal for them to support. Some have even called for conservatives to withhold donations from the NRCC in protest...

It would be much more fun if our current party leaders would respond to positive re-inforcement rather than negative - Rebuilding the party, however, is a process & won't happen overnight. Good to see it's progressing.

Haha thats funny Asp considering how I always refuse to cite anything from Daily Kos....heh....blind and self-righteous you lash out at your own....

Lets see what do I support besides her Middle Ground stance that prevents major polarization of the vote? She was chosen by her local area? She is the local while Hoffman is an outsider to the area? Her opposition to Gun Control (she had the backing of the NRA)? Against Obama's Health Care? Voted against Rent Financial Housing Increases?
Tell me whats not conserative? Oh wait that she supports Equal Marriage Rights? Is that it?

Well as the above link says the issue here comes at that despite that she is slightly more Conservative then the average Albany Conservative Legislator and a Republican, its that she is a "New York Republican". So am I . I'm sorry we don;t live up to your standards elsewhere.

Now watch as the party gets into a "The #1 Conservative Contest" and throws out much chance of actually reaching widely to the voters, though I suppose their are worse fates for the party though I dearly hope we aren't on the road to them.

I would prefer to have someone to represent us as a constitutional conservative. Bush and his compassionate conservatism.

The answer to the question you addressed to Tumb is because he is a marxist-socialist-statist that the Daily Kos told to come here and stir things up.

If I were Hoffman I would make a statement along the lines of never having left the Republican party & promising to represent as a Republican.

Tomb, other than having a "R" by her name, why would you support Scozzafava based on her record?

it has happened now and the national has replaced her with Hoffman---she belonged in the Dem Caucus and how she was selected at this time I sure some major assistance was given from the left. 20 years ago it was real common to have Moderates and all but Lefties in the ranks but in the past 10 years they have been slowley drummed out and I did not like the idea of a new one. My main concern right not is since the National has over ride the Local GOP in this move if there will be protest votes or just plain ol not showing at the polls.

We now have the two party race and its not boring yet, will the DNC take this GOP seat or will the GOP maintain it--this is as radical as a Go SpeedRacer Cartoon

While I find this blog amusing that in your last post you say screw the NRCC and now you praise them I suppose Hoffman has my support now that Dede has been run out of the race but Carmelo there is no reason to be rude about her.

Even in word, this is a step in the right direction...let's see if this changes anything...not holding my breath.

Dede the fat RINO should withraw from the race for the good of the Party. Sarah Palin's little facebook post has shaken the nation and turned the NY23 in the most famous congressional race in recent history! That is for Evelio who is still dreaming with Mitt(nowhere to be found) Romney
