The politically correct approach to the terrorist attack at Fort Hood a week ago seems to be to make excuses for the man who did the shooting and claim he was mentally deranged just like any other rampage killer in the United States.

I think this is completely deluded thinking.

Just because we are able to reconstruct a terrorist crime in retrospect and find that the perpetrator was mentally unbalanced does not mean that an act of terrorism has not occurred.

All of the 14 victims are still dead. All of the wounded are still wounded. All of the traumatized are still traumatized. The nation is still aghast at the senseless brutality and murder.

I have read some comment that we should downplay the fact that the murderer was a devout religious Muslim and that he was clearly influenced in his deranged thinking by radical Islamists.

Well, I am completely sick and tired of these excuses.

If the Muslim world doesn't have the where with all to start fessing up to this criminal nihilism, maybe we should stop making it any little bit easier for them.

NOW I AM GOING TO UNLEASH MY INNER REDNECK - Everyone be warned:

World War II was, ignoring the terrible sacrifice that had to be made by so many Americans, good for the U.S. economy.

Perhaps World War III against the terror regimes and organizations in the Middle East and Eurasia would not be such a bad idea. It would boost our economy and lay that very violent part of the world to waste.

I'll give you odds of a million to one we will subdue the terrorist threat and pacify that part of the world just as effectively as we pacified Japan and Germany 70 years ago.

Yes, I know all the people to the political left of me will say this is using a sledge hammer to swat a fly.

But I am getting pretty fed up with all the flies I see keep buzzing around killing innocent people...

If you think it appears that I am really, really pissed off about the shootings in Texas last week, you are damned right, I am very, very ticked off about the shootings in Texas last week.

I might calm down about it in a couple of months, but I wouldn't count on that...

Tomb, if this issue is not addressed it can certainly lead to innocent muslims being attacked for the terrorism of a few.

I don't agree with you on this issue, but your last post is extremely well argued...my hats off to your reasoning and presentation...

The terrible thing about war is that in the process of defeating an enemy, many innocents get trampled...but that is different than setting out from the start to kill the innocent...

In any society faced with real danger, security will trump the better aspects of many aspects of that society...and, sadly, many aspects of normal, respectful human nature...

I still think it was due to a number of issues that broke the man but his actions are still inexcusable for whatever reason and he is going to be punished with the might of the US Sledgehammer!

Obviously though he was indeed influenced by his radical Islam, my aim in all of this is not to protect Radical Islam, but those innocent Muslims from biased attacks. If we TRULY want to do away with PC in all of this then we should not just crack down on Radical Islam but Fundamentalist Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, etc etc. They are just as violent and spiteful as Radical Islam only though one of which has any actual power within the United States, especially the military.

The duty of Freedom of Religion and Protecting our citizens is not in covering up for just one aspect of just one religion but to extend it to the Extremists in All Religions. Only then will things change.

Especially NOT by deporting all Muslims or disallowing Muslim immigrants, I am a strong advocate of a idea by Amy Chua in her book Day of Empire: How Hyper Empires Rise to Dominance- and Why They Fall. Chua argues that preconditions for hyperpower status include tolerance of ethnic divisions, and that preconditions for its loss include either a growing intolerance by the traditional ruling élites or a failure to "glue" together the subject peoples into an overarching identity.

I will not see the heart of America, its Toleration and Acceptance be gutted by PC or Nativists.

Carmelo -

I don't like the name calling you use a lot of the time, but I suspect there actually is more than one thing we can agree on.

When push comes to shove, we both are much more likely to vote for a Republican candidate than not...

We agree in something. What this man did was an attack. He did not go to Walmart, he went to kill US service members. Now get ready for the symphaty tour of some people, includding our Muslim president's crew trying to downplay this act and even pardon this evil man.
