Alberto Gonzalez is a symbol for the Republican Hispanic base

Believe me, when they go after Alberto Gonzalez they are going after the symbol of the hispanic Republican. This is one key reason why hispanics will not vote for Republicans, because they believe Gonzalez was crucified and sold out by his own party for backing up Bush. He was a symbol that was offered as a sacrificial lamb, because his parents were illegal immigrants, because many wanted Bush's head, and many Republicans turned their back on Alberto. NOW HIspanics see this and wonder why they should even support a party who does not support their own. The Democrats will rally around their own and use every political tool at their disposal, Alberto;s inquisition exposed the GOP's tentative support for hispanics in their own party. Image is everything!

His head was demanded by the DEMS because he represented Bush, and they knew that he was a weak link to the GOP machine. They also smelled weakness when it came to support for him. Read the initial responses from Arlen Specter and some others who immediately played with the Dems. IF the GOP wants to really build their base, they must learn to protect their own when they actaully do not break the law. Many others in Bush's administration were huger distractions but remained in power. Bush attempted to protect Gonzalez, he even stated that Gonzalez background was important for the future of the party. Now to the average citizen, it appears in the media as a sacrificial lamb. Problem is, when you find out what really happened-- you begin to wonder if the GOP understands the concept of image and symbolism. Gonzalez in one generation achieved the American dream while being an "anchor baby." This was a dilemma for the party, here you had proof of assimilation, and full duty to country but the media again was attacking because they refuse to allow minorities who claim conservatism as their mental framework. Look at Clarence Thomas, Rice, and Miguel Estrada

I wouldn't say that Alberto Gonzalez was thrown under the bus cause he was Hispanic. He was thrown under the bus because he was becoming too much of a distraction for the Bush Admin.

This type of thing is very frustrating for those of us activized in the base, who stand up for people like Gonzales in the extremely stupid "attorney firings scandal." When our leaders do not stand up & call crap crap, we don't want to support them. We need people like Palin, Sanford, etc... who will not shrink from justifiable conflict.

I agree that the cartilage spined republicans allowed Alberto Gonzalez to be "thrown under the bus."
It is embarrassing to watch the republican hierarchy eat their young and give the *&$#% democrats a pass.
When Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, had not only the right but the responsibility to throw out the democrat holdovers and appoint (hopefully) loyal republicans.
