The Fed Is Worried About Ron Paul
Posted by Lew Rockwell at June 6, 2009 07:40 AM

The central bank of the United States government--the Federal Reserve--thinks it needs a lobbyist, to work in Congress against Ron Paul. The Bloomberg story doesn't mention Ron, but instead interviews some ex-Fed hack in DC. But it is Ron Paul the Fed fears. What a great achievement of Ron's, to make what Andrew Jackson called "the Monster," the all-powerful, globe-dominating, special-interest funding. bankster-enabling, dollar-depreciating, business cycle-generating central bank worry about its image, for the first time since 1913. His presidential campaign alerted millions to the fact that we are being ripped-off by the Fed. His Audit the Fed bill (183 cosponsors!) scares the heck out of them. And wait until his End the Fed manifesto is published this summer! They'll need a whole corps of lobbyists, not that they will be able to protect what is in essence a criminal counterfeiting gang. Fed Intends to Hire Lobbyist in Campaign to Buttress Its Image
By Robert Schmidt

June 5 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve intends to hire a veteran lobbyist as it seeks to counter skepticism in Congress about the central bank’s growing power over the U.S. financial system, people familiar with the matter said.

Linda Robertson currently handles government, community and public affairs at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and headed the Washington lobbying office of Enron Corp., the energy trading company that collapsed in 2002 after an accounting scandal. She was also an adviser to all three of the Clinton administration’s Treasury secretaries.

Robertson would help the Fed manage relations with lawmakers seeking greater oversight of a central bank that has used emergency powers to prevent Wall Street’s demise. While she wasn’t tied to Enron’s fraud, her association with the firm may raise questions, analysts said.

“Some members of Congress think there are votes in attacking the Fed” after it “unnecessarily and unwisely entangled monetary policy with fiscal policy,” said former St. Louis Fed President William Poole. “The Fed is going to have a tricky time of unwinding what has been done” and will need to “keep in touch with members of Congress more thoroughly,” said Poole, now senior fellow with the Cato Institute in Washington.

Robertson served under Treasury Secretaries Lawrence Summers, Robert Rubin and Lloyd Bentsen. She didn’t return calls seeking comment.

Summers Tie

Summers now heads the White House National Economic Council. Along with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, he is leading Obama administration efforts to broaden the economic rescue and overhaul financial regulation. He has been mentioned as a possible successor to Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke should Bernanke not be renominated when his term ends in January.

Robertson is likely to start at the Fed in July and have the title of senior adviser to the Board of Governors, the people familiar with the situation said.

She was considered for a senior post under Geithner at the Treasury but ran up against the Obama administration’s restrictions on hiring lobbyists, the people said.

“People have been asking whether the Fed is capable of getting its job done right,” said Lynn Turner, a former chief accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission. “Hiring a former lobbyist from Enron will surely make one wonder.”

Lawmaker Pressure

Robertson would confront a range of issues in the newly created position. Congress is looking to subject the Fed to more scrutiny, and some lawmakers have suggested that district bank presidents should be confirmed by the Senate.

Some legislators have also expressed opposition to the Obama administration’s attempt to make the Fed the regulator in charge of financial companies deemed too-big-to-fail.

In addition, the central bank has been become a target to some members of Congress who’ve posted online videos of their interrogations of Fed officials during public hearings.

One YouTube clip, of Florida Democratic Representative Alan Grayson’s grilling of Inspector General Elizabeth Coleman, has garnered almost 500,000 views in about a month.

Robertson is expected to advise the Fed on communications strategy, the people said. In recent months, Bernanke has pushed to make the traditionally secretive institution more open. He’s done a television interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” program and taken questions from reporters at a National Press Club function in Washington.

According to her biography on the Johns Hopkins Web site, Robertson has spent more than 25 years working on federal legislative issues.

While Robertson’s Hopkins biography makes no mention of her work at Enron, federal disclosure documents show she joined the company in 2000 after working at the Treasury. Robertson, who signed some of the forms, said she lobbied on energy and tax issues.

Wow, can you be anymore insulting to people who want to help their country. Can you be anymore ignorant to reality. Are you done insulting people for NO reason. I did not round these people up, I was asked to speak after the meeting was already scheduled. I had nothing to do with the organization and for 280 people to show up for a republican meeting in an extremely liberal ward is AWESOME. The fact that people are showing up is AWESOME. The fact that the people voted for Obama and are now looking for alternatives is AWESOME. Just because you do not support our local actions is immaterial to reality. I suggest strongly that you withhold your misplaced opinions and keep them to yourself on this issue. You disrespected 280 people and 6 speakers whom you do not know anything about them. That fact alone discredits your actions and hurts YOU. Please stop disrespecting people for looking for ways to change the situation we are in. If you were truly conservative, you woulld NEVER have posted that.

LOL,don't know how you're little meeting of a mere 280 proves anything but you managed to round up a bunch of Kool-Aid drinking uninformed people who probably spend more time watching American Idol than actually informing themselves on the issues and get their news from the lame stream media.

Just got back from speaking at a GOP Town Hall meeting. We asked them to identify or be able to identify politicians. Out of the 280 I spoke to...NONE knew of Ron Paul. None. Out of 280 where a large group were young voters and another large group of hispanics, NONE knew of Ron Paul. They named 20 Republican politicians but could not name Ron Paul. If they do not know, I doubt the Feds care.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) introduced the following resolution:

Expressing support for all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and rule of law, and for other purposes.

Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

(1) expresses its support for all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and rule of law;

(2) condemns the ongoing violence against demonstrators by the Government of Iran and pro-government militias, as well as the ongoing government suppression of independent electronic communication through interference with the Internet and cellphones; and

(3) affirms the universality of individual rights and the importance of democratic and fair elections.

The House just voted to pass it by an overwhelming margin 405 to 1. Ron Paul was the lone "no" vote, with two voting present.

I believe in Ron Paul's HR 1207...at 222 co sponsors now! whoooo hoooo!

June 11, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We wanted to make sure you were the first to know that your hard work and dedication has resulted in Ron Paul's Audit the Fed bill, HR 1207, gaining the support of a majority of the House of Representatives!

Just moments ago, Dr. Paul's congressional office issued a press release announcing that HR 1207 had received its 218th cosponsor, and that the list has now grown to 222!

Read their press release here.

Since our last update put the number at 207 on Tuesday, here is the list of representatives that have signed on:

-Rep. David Loebsack
-Rep. Gary Miller
-Rep. Frank Wolf
-Rep. Corrine Brown
-Rep. Jackie Speier
-Rep. Bruce Braley
-Rep. Donna Edwards
-Rep. Bobby Bright
-Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao
-Rep. Jared Polis
-Rep. Dennis Kucinich
-Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon
-Rep. Howard Coble
-Rep. Jean Schmidt
-Rep. Heath Shuler

This is an incredible victory for the freedom movement, but our work to Audit the Fed is only just beginning! Now we must concentrate on seeing the bill through the committee process and getting it to the House floor for a vote.

With your continued support, we will do just that. Together, we will restore transparency to our nation's monetary system.

Thank you for all you do for the cause of liberty!

In Liberty,

John Tate

Suzanne, the reason you gave may be ok for you but it is no way to deal with anything. Spiteful actions solve nothing. You may think that it does something for you but being here or any community that is based on furthering an ideology is not about you. It's about the cause it represents. Again, if you don't agree, you have the option to leave. You can be destructive here which will resolve nothing or you can be constructive elsewhere where your efforts would be appreciated.

Whatever the case, doing something to 'poke' people in the collective eye is not constructive use of your time and certainly doing nothing around here. I would not pretend to suggest I know what you do to support what you believe but I will say that any time you spend here for the wont to 'poke' people is a detriment to the causes you suggest you support.

It would be as if I went to HuffPo and stirred it up with Dems. For what reason, I'd be wasting time being spiteful. Better to spend it moving forward what I believe.

The bill needs 230 votes to pass Pelosi's legal ability to stall it fomr coming to the floor. It is at 189 according to the actual list. Some things do work out well but I am actually very knowledgeable on how the US Congress works since I am again on the staff of a US Congressman. I also am on the campaign team for a US Senator. And on 2 Gubernnatorial campaign teams.
Now that suzanne has shown her inability to rationalize through simple logic I will repeat the true facts that others have told her too.
Ron Paul received a total of 6 million votes in 2008 or 1.94%...some sucess, they guy who lost the election for dog catcher garnered 18% of the vote. So much for RP sucess, it failed worse than McCain. At least McCain garnered 60 million votes, TEN times what RP could pray for.

Now back to this....THIS ADMINISTRATION IS NOT AFRAID OF RON PAUL. THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS OVER 2 MILLION LOBBYISTS ON PAYROLL, A FEW MORE ARE NOT OUT OF FEAR FOR A QUASI WANNABE CONSERVATIVE WHO IS OUT OF TOUCH IN FOREIGN POLICY, DOMESTIC POLICY AND WHOSE FOLLOWERS COULD NOT IDENTIFY HALF OF WHAT THEY CLAIM. YOU THINK OBAMA IS WORRIED ABOUT RON PAUL, TRY AGAIN, HE IS LAUGHING. RON PAUL IS NOTHING THE DEMOCRATS THINK ABOUT OR WORRY. LET'S MOVE BACK TO REALITY AND WORK ON REBUILDING THE GOP AND NOT RON PAUL'S HYPOCRITICAL CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT AS A FAKE CONSERVATIVE/LIBERTARIAN.....BOTH OF WHICH HE IS NEITHER.

I doubt suzanne will understand this reality and attack through lies again. Oh, there ar3 33 C4L members surrently active on this site, 19 I know object to suzannes post and ahve informed me that she has NEVER honestly represented their group at all. Since 3 of the people I mentioned are listed on the C4L groups website leadership position, I will believe them and not suzanne who has proven to be so inacurrate. IF suzanne would stop lying or misinforming people on purpose, she would see where the rebuilding is actually happening and would not have any problems with people listening to her. As of now. most on this site dismiss her posts and move on without her input on most issues.

This site is NOT C4L information site and that is NOT wanted on here and we should be respected for that. If not, please stop whinning about being dumped on with true facts. This is a conservative site for the RNC, not a wannabe site for wannabe groups and failed candidates. We rejected Ron Paul AND McCain, time to bury them and move on.

Jeff I have been on this site from the very beginning...there were MANY MANY C4L and Ron Paul people here...good republicans wanting to help rebuild the party. There was a group formed for C4L on here by one of the organizers named Jason. Things were going pretty well actually ...except...NEO CONS started trashing the Ron Paul folks...and we have developed a resentment. Most of the Ron Paul folks said it wasn't worth staying and left this forum...then the original organizers , who were very good, all left...it was a mass exodus. Then the site became a "technical/ networking" site. It was REALLY good and I don't know who killed the effort..and why it was started to begin with. What you are seeing is a remenent of the folk who came on here from the beginning and I am probably one of 3 Ron Paul supporters who still hang on. Most have moved onto greener pastures...but I stay around out of habit I guess....because I don't sense a real effort to rebuild anything. The harassment I have gotten from some of the people like country courtney, jim rock, terrence abrams and brennen...has caused me to POKE the neo cons in the eyes with Ron Pauls popularity and success. There is a history here.

First, to be clear, I like the bill and the amendment that it will add to the over all U.S. code and do hop it will go through. I am harder pressed to believe that it will make it through the Senate but that remains to be seen.

However, I need to point out that you are getting the reaction you are not because of what a bill like this represent but that you insist on pushing forth what is obviously not consistent with what people here want. We've mentioned in the past that the ideas you bring forth are not to the general Republican party.

However, that would be ok but the manner in which you present is just so very difficult to swallow. As with your post directly above, you insist on stuffing Ron Paul, Ron Paul acolytes, Campaign for Liberty and overall Libertarianism down our collective throats. I'm a flummoxed as to why you wish to do this. What is it that you wish to prove? That you're right? That we're wrong? You just like the reaction?

I guess I don't understand.
